DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake University freshman men's basketball student-athlete Micah Mason has requested and been granted a release from his scholarship at Drake University.
"Due to some unique diet and health concerns that I face, I have wanted to be closer to home, my family and the support system there," Mason said. "This decision has nothing to do with the great experience I have had at Drake. I love the university, my teammates, the fans and the community, but at this time I need to be close to home. I thank Drake for the opportunity it has given me and allowing me to explore a better situation for my health."
A native of Natrona Heights, Pa., Mason played in 30 games as a freshman with 11 starts. He averaged 5.4 points per game and was one of the top three-point shooters in the Missouri Valley Conference, converting on 50.6 percent of his three-point attempts with 40 makes on the season. As a point guard, he averaged 2.2 assists per game and had a 1.6 assist-to-turnover margin.
