The date has officially been set. Warren County residents will vote yes or no for a new casino on May 7th.
Wednesday in Indianola a group called Warren County Citizens for Good Jobs turned in a petition.
The group needed just over 2,600 signatures to get the casino on a county wide referendum.
They got those names and more, turning in 3,300 signatures to the county auditor's office.
"We can sit back and generate this kind of revenue to help us without raising additional property taxes to get to the goals of each of the individual governing bodies. I can't help but think this is a win-win for this particular county," says Mayor Larry Bohlen from Hartford.
Supporters say the casino would create about 600 jobs. The plan also calls for a hotel, an events center and a bowling alley.
If the County approves of the idea the casino will need to be cleared with the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
