New Casino Proposal in Norwalk

A new casino in Warren County came a step closer to reality Wednesday.

Leaders announced their plans for a project located northwest of Norwalk near Highway Five. The site is set to include a 150-room hotel, casino, and bowling alley.

Leaders say the center would bring around 600 new jobs to Warren County; 450 permanent and 250 temporary construction jobs.

They're not concerned that there's already another casino in the metro.

"Do we think they'll be opposition from the other casino establishments in Iowa. Yes. We are prepared for that," says Doug Shull from the Warren County Economic Development Corporation.

Supporters of the casino have to get 2600 petition signatures in the next month. If that happens it will be up for a county referendum in May.
