A national event called Guns Across America is holding rallies in front of state capitols Saturday and gun advocates came in force to the Statehouse here in Des Moines to voice their views against the President's policies for gun control.
They voiced their opinions as responsible gun owners.
Disagreeing with gun regulations they say are infringing on their Second Amendment rights to keep and bare arms.
They also signed petitions to later send their government officials. They hope to inspire law abiding gun owners to get more involved on a local, state, and national level.
"Any assault on a part of the Bill of Rights is an assault on the entire Bill of Rights. When we swear an oath of office as an elected official, I don't get to pick and choose which parts of the Constitution I want to uphold. I have to uphold it in its entirety," says Rep. Tom Shaw from District 10.
Shaw and several other legislators will introduce and try to pass state gun protection laws this session. Something they feel is needed to face the gun regulations they say are coming from Washington.
