Employees with MidAmerican Energy have been working day and night since the storm hit.
But still, about 4,000 Iowans are still without power, most of them in Des Moines.

An even crazier number than that is MidAmerican energy says that over the course of these two days crews have had to restore power to 160,000 customers, because many times they turned on power in a certain area - then it went out again - and they had to go back.

MidAmerican has 650 power employees working in the city right now.  But the total is higher than that.  MidAmerican called in crews from Rocky Mountain Power in Utah and Pacific Power in Oregon.

MidAmerican spokeswoman Tina Potthoff says that everyone's power should be back on in twenty four hours.

"We're asking people to definitely be patient today.  If you need an update on your neighborhood - give us a telephone call.  We can definitely provide you with additional specifics about the anticipated timeline that we think it will take us to respond to your particular area," says Potthoff.

The USA Track and Field Championships are being held in Des Moines for the second time in three years. Organizers are hoping the event will prove that Des Moines is capable of hosting the track and field Olympic trials.
