Alcohol Charges Rise at ISU

With over a thousand more new students this year at Iowa State than years past, the number of alcohol related charges also went up.

So far this year there's been a 27% increase in arrests and tickets at ISU.

The exact opposite trend has happened at the University of Iowa, typically known as a "party school."

ISU campus police believe there's a connection between the overall student increase and the increase in charges.
 
Warm fall weather and a successful football team is also bringing more students to the tailgates and the bars after the games.
 
"I think with the football and basketball, both sporting events getting better, I think that increases the population of more people wanting to go out and have fun," says Jimmy Scott, a student at ISU.
 
"It's definitely is a more rowdy atmosphere this year.  I felt like I spend a lot more time tailgating in the student lots this year," says ISU student Mike Weisenberger.
