CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) _ Democrat Bruce Braley has won a fourth term in Congress, beating Republican Ben Lange in Iowa's 1st Congressional District.

It was the second time Braley has beat Lange, who narrowly lost his congressional bid in 2010.

Braley portrayed himself as a centrist who wants to seek common ground in an excessively partisan Congress. He also emphasized the need to reduce federal spending while protecting Medicare.

Lange stressed his commitment to balancing the federal budget and blamed Braley and other Democrats for unsustainable spending.

The 1st district roughly encompasses Iowa's northeast quarter, and includes Dubuque, Waterloo and Cedar Rapids.
