DES MOINES, IA (Oct. 31, 2012) – The Iowa Energy announced today that former NBA guard/forward, and fan favorite, Othyus Jeffers will return for the 2012-2013 season. Since the 09-10 season Jeffers has seen time in 31 regular season NBA games with three different teams (Utah, San Antonio and Washington), as well as 6 NBA pre-season games split between Utah and Phoenix.
Fans can expect the fast-paced Jeffers to add to his current long list of impressive stats over the course of 107 games in three seasons wearing an Energy uniform (08-09, 09-10 and 10-11). He holds averages of 19.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2 steals per game.
In addition to Jeffers, the Energy also announced the signing of two returning players from last season - Nick Murphy and Ben Strong. Murphy was the 4th round Draft pick of the Energy last year and averaged 10.8 point, 5.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals over 49 regular season games. Strong was a local tryout selection and contributed an average of 8.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.6 blocks during the regular season. Strong exploded during the Energy's 2012 playoff campaign, averaging 20.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in their opening round loss to Los Angeles.
Energy will host its annual NBA Development League Draft party at Trophy's
Sports Bar and Grill (2701 Douglas Avenue) in Des Moines, Iowa this Friday,
November 2nd. The draft party will begin at 5:30 PM CST. Fans of all ages are
welcome to attend as the Energy will begin selecting players live at the party
via teleconference with the NBA at 6 PM.
