Once again there is a quarterback controversy at Iowa State. Steele Jantz is listed as the starter but that could change by Saturday.
"He made some poor decisions with run reads and made some poor decisions with balls that were thrown and yes they did contribute to a level of play that's not acceptable to win games in the Big 12 conference" said coach Paul Rhoads.
When an offense struggles most fingers automatically point to the quarterback.
"There are 11 guys out on the field and there's a number of coaches in the film room all week long putting together a game plan. There's never one person to blame" said Rhoads.
Its easy for fans to call for a change based on one game but for Paul Rhoads its much more complex.
"I don't think its what were gonna see in practice its what we gotta see on Saturday. Obviously what we're seeing in practices excites us. That's why he's the starter and its also why he's 3–1.
On two occasions Paul Rhoads has shown he's not afraid to make a change. Jared Barnett replaced Steele Jantz after 7 starts last year and then Jantz replaced Barnett in the PinStripe Bowl.
"It's a week long and then a game day feel. A&M a year ago things happened long enough to make me feel through preparation and the start of the game that a change needed to be made. The Rutgers game was the opposite way with the same two guys" said Rhoads.
With a loaded defense and an outstanding punter it could be a special year in Ames if someone can emerge as a reliable quarterback.
