While Congressman Paul Ryan's plane landed in Des Moines around 5:45 p.m. from Cedar Rapids, his team was already getting ready for him in Adel. Tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. the GOP vice presidential nominee will speak to Iowans on the Adel square.

The courthouse square was the scene of set up between a stage, lighting and sound system.

Ryan's event will close down the streets of the square as well as streets about a half block away by 6:00 a.m. until around 11:00 a.m. That includes a detour for vehicles traveling down Highway 169.

Businesses on the square may have difficulties helping customers before and during the event.
The manager at Brick Street Books & Cafe says he appreciates the secret service keeping them informed of procedures and how the morning will play out.

He's excited for Adel to have a big name in town, but he's not sure how business will be affected.

"It can be bad for some businesses. For example, we're closing down some streets here in town which will drive some of our locals and regulars away for the day," said Travis Duke, manager at Brick Street Books & Cafe. "But with the added people that this brings to the town, I think it can kind of help even it out."

People do need to have a ticket for the event. If you're going, the grounds open at 7:00 a.m. and keep in mind you'll be going through airport-like security. There's only on entrance to the square at Ninth and Main.
