Labor Day provided politicians with some ammunition at parades and stump speeches across the country.

On this day celebrating labor unions and workers around the country, Democrats like Leonard Boswell and President Obama's re-election campaign used Des Moines' Labor Day parade to reinforce their support of the middle class.

They marched side by side with the metro's unions from the Capitol to the State Fairgrounds.

Even former Governor and current US Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack came back to Iowa, to lend another voice in favor of President Obama and his policies that he says strengthen the middle class.

"I've been privileged and honored to be the first constitutional cabinet member from Iowa in over seventy years.  I think that puts an emphasis on how important the President sees the State of Iowa, to select an Iowan for this position.  I want to make sure folks understand that.  I want to make sure folks understand how important their vote in the election will be," says Vilsack.
