Tropical Storm Isaac is wrecking havoc along the Gulf Coast.

Iowa Red Cross workers have been on the ground since before the storm. They were definitely needed, Tuesday night almost six thousand people stayed in Red Cross shelters across the area.

More volunteers are on their way.

"This is a huge operation, a huge disaster that's spread through the gulf.  We anticipate that as the storm very slowly moves through that we're going to have to ramp up even more," says Mary Dooley from Iowa Red Cross.

That's why in a few days Joshua Towns will be flown into the disaster area.

He's part of a group training to be Red Cross regional workers.

A two week instructional program is being cut short - they fly out Friday morning.

It's a program operated by the Red Cross and Americorps.

Joshua will be instrumental for getting on the ground research about the disaster zone and also giving support to the disaster victims.

"This situation is going to be more of what's needed and so if I get there, whatever's in need, that's what I'll jump into and get done.  Because again this is a very serious moment.  There's a lot of people in need and the Red Cross will always be there," says Joshua Towns.

The red cross is always in needs of support.  Especially when disaster strikes.
