LECLAIRE, Iowa (AP) - Workers repairing a towboat on the Mississippi River at LeClaire are in a race against time to get patches completed and the boat ready to move before temperatures dip into single digits by Friday night. Coast Guard officials say the boat has a hole after hitting something in the river on Nov. 25 and partially sinking, leaking oil and diesel fuel.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - The University of Iowa says the Federal Emergency Management Agency will not require the school to purchase additional flood insurance after all. UI vice president of finance and operations Doug True said Wednesday the news will save the school millions of dollars. FEMA had told the university that it might require higher limits.
EVANSDALE, Iowa (AP) - The Des Moines Register reports that investigators are still getting calls and working on the case of two Iowa cousins whose bodies were found a year ago. The bodies of Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins were found Dec. 5, 2012, at Seven Bridges Wildlife Area in Bremer County. Elizabeth was 8 and Lyric was 10 when they vanished while riding bikes in Evansdale.
AMES, Iowa (AP) - Hallie Christofferson, Nikki Moody and Seanna Johnson had big games as No. 20 Iowa State cruised by Northern Iowa 83-55 Wednesday night. The unbeaten Cyclones are off to their best start in 11 seasons. The Panthers, held to 36 percent shooting, were led by Madison Weekly with 16 points.
