It has been over two months since central Iowa has seen a good snow storm... November 9th 2011 to be exact! The snow is winding down but the totals have really piled up in the heart of the state.
Generally totals have been in the 5-7 inch range in the metro with higher amounts south and west. A few stand out totals were 11.5" in Cumberland (near Atlantic), 8.7" at the National Weather Service Office in Johnston, 8" in Creston, 7.5" in Greenfield and around 6" at the Des Moines International Airport. Temperatures stayed above freezing both in the air and on the roads, so we have seen decent road conditions when you consider how much fell. You can find updates on those roads at http://t.co/eXGOFaHV for Iowa & http://t.co/K5ViWssh for the Metro.
Late Saturday night temperatures will go below freezing and we'll see some icy spots on the roads. Side streets and intersections will also be icy/slick so take care if you have to travel.
Roads should not be an issue after noon Sunday and it will be a much quieter day -except for the Super bowl partiers that is. Many locations will start off cloudy and frosty, but by the afternoon I'm expecting plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the mid to upper 30s depending on how much snow you have on the ground.
Have a safe weekend!
