Chris Conoan joined the ABC5 Team in February 2010. He is very excited to be working in Des Moines close to family, friends and Iowa's ever-changing weather!
An Iowa native, Chris earned his Bachelor's of Science in Meteorology at Iowa State in May 2008. While at Iowa State he was President of the Iowa State University Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society. He was also awarded to opportunity to professionally storm chase with world-renowned chaser Tim Samaras who can now be seen on Discovery Channel's "Storm Chasers." During this research operation he forecasted and found 3 of the 21 tornadoes he's tracked down in his career.
Chris has worked as a meteorologist for our sister station KCAU ABC9 in Sioux City and KSWO TV-7 in Lawton, OK. While in Oklahoma, he covered several severe weather events in the heart of tornado alley and thrived on the challenge of forecasting the dynamic weather. Chris enjoys spending his free time experiencing the weather outdoors with his dog Harley. You'll often find him fishing, hunting or riding his motorcycle in the Iowa countryside.
